Video Calling now, just a WhatsApp update away

Over the years video calling have gained massive popularity in the social networking apps and sites like Skype, Facetime and in Facebook as well. Finally, to give all of this a tough competition, WhatsApp now embraced the Video Calling Option and officially launched the new feature very recently, making it available globally on Android, iPhone and Windows Phone. Provided that it is indeed one of the most popular means of communication all over the world, this new addition was definitely a masterstroke on the company’s part.

All that the users need to do to enable the feature is update their app or install the new version. The latest update provides the brand new option which is also secured by the same end-to-end encryption that WhatsApp introduced for it’s messages and calls earlier this year, making it completely personalized for users. To use the feature, we just need to – Open a chat, tap on the ‘Camera (video call)’ icon on the top right corner and chat with the other contact through Wi-Fi or Mobile Data connectivity. Earlier by tapping the “Call” option one can make only calls to other person.

It even gives out the options of switching between the front and rear cameras and muting the audio. One can even reply to other messages while video calling by flicking the thumbnail on a side and resuming back once done. For Android and Windows Phone the video call pauses while on iPhone the video continues but turns into a small bubble as an overlay over the screen. To make the feature work the other contact needs to have an updated or newly installed version of WhatsApp too.

We’re introducing this feature because we know that sometimes voice and text just aren’t enough. There’s no substitute for watching your grandchild take her first steps, or seeing your daughter’s face while she’s studying abroad. And we want to make these features available to everyone, not just those who can afford the most expensive new phones or live in countries with the best cellular networksWhatsApp said via their blog post.

Considering how users have been requesting for this option for long now, the user friendly feature is surely set to be a huge success. The quality of the call will be depending on the strength of the internet connection. More the strength, better the call. A note of caution though, since the feature have been launched  there have been an influx of various links inviting video calls which are nothing but fake scams about which users need to be aware.

So, Guys, don’t wait any longer and enable your feature to enjoy video calling with your family, friends and others all over the world!
